Figurative speech examples and definitions

After the lesson

  1. Stuck like a burr. Simile. Tells you that the cat is not going to leave their side.
  1. as if I’m nothing more than a woman of sand. Simile because she feels as if she is getting pushed away by the waves.
  1.  Like a lady’s glove forgotten. Simile because it is beginning forgotten and just left.
  1. like a small bird beating about the cruel wires of a cage. Simile. There is a small bird flying around a cage and trying to get out.
  1. She entered with ungainly struggle like some huge awkward chicken, torn, squawking, out of its coop. onomatopoeia. It is telling the reader how the chicken is going crazy and being really loud.
  • The very mystery of him excited her curiosity like a door that had neither lock nor key. Simile. This tells the reader that the like to explore and the door to exploring is open
  • framed in the small doorway of the corridor like the statue. Simile. It is telling the reader that something is standing still in a door way and they are not moving.
